Turtle Season
Nights when the beach comes alive
Turtle Season
The protected coastline of southern Mozambique is an important nesting area for sea turtles. During the warmer months, females come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the sand. Weeks later, the hatchlings begin their short and perilous journey to the sea.
Watching this is one of the region’s quietest and most memorable nature experiences. It calls for patience, respect and darkness. No flash, no touching, no interference. Just observe.
Perhaps this is the moment when it becomes clear why this coastline needs protection.
Good to know
Turtle walks should only take place with responsible, authorised local guides. Sightings and nesting activity are seasonal and never guaranteed; beach protection rules must always be respected.
