Inhaca Marine Biology Museum

A different perspective on the ocean

Inhaca Marine Biology Museum

Inhaca Island is home to the Estação de Biologia Marítima da Inhaca of Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. The station includes a biological museum with collections representing the marine and terrestrial flora and fauna of the island and the Mozambican coast.

Inhaca is not close to Ponta Malongane and should not be considered a nearby excursion. For guests who would like to add a visit to Inhaca to their stay, however, the museum is an interesting destination, placing the nature experienced outdoors into its scientific context.

For anyone who wants to look more closely after experiencing the sea and coast, this is where the same world comes into scientific focus.

Visit & planning

Universidade Eduardo Mondlane officially lists the Museu de Biologia on Inhaca Island as part of the Estação de Biologia Marítima da Inhaca (EBMI). The faculty specifically asks visitors to make contact to arrange a visit. Fixed public opening hours are not currently published on the official pages, so visits should be arranged directly with EBMI in advance.

The station is on Inhaca Island, around 32 km east of Maputo. From Nova Atlantis in Ponta Malongane, it is not a spontaneous nearby excursion. Travel and the visit should be planned as a separate part of the trip and confirmed in advance. We are happy to help, just ask us.
